Laura Cardona was born in New York City, and moved to Onondaga County to attend Syracuse University in 1983. In 1991 she moved permanently, making the city of Syracuse her home. She was appointed to the bench December 8, 1999; she is the first Latina to become a City Court of Syracuse judge. Before her appointment Laura Estela Cardona practiced law privately.
